Global: Phase 3 of Camden Council’s Community Investment Programme (CIP) includes the demolition of health, community and residential properties, to facilitate the delivery of a residential development that includes private housing, social housing and intermediate rental housing.
Specific: Demolition of structures using the long-reach technique, including all necessary asbestos removal works; Downwell also provided the R&D survey that confirmed the full extent of asbestos containing materials within the buildings.
Challenges: System Built structure – The buildings were of a modular construction and as such the deconstruction of the panelled sections requires extensive planning, and the installation of temporary supports to maintain the integrity of the structure as the works progress. As a further safeguard, and especially due the close proximity of adjacent community areas, we used the services of Inner City Scaffold (a Downwell Group company) to install full height protection scaffold.
