Global: The London Borough of Enfield has a plan to deliver a number of projects that will achieve innovative housing by unlocking potential within existing estates. The demolition of Beck House was the enabling stage for a project that formed part of this initiative creating added value for existing residents through the improvement to public areas, external landscaping, and sustainable delivery through energy-efficient design.
Specific: Demolition of the two and three store buildings that made up the Beck House development, inclusive of the removal of all asbestos, and the erection of all associated scaffold. NB: Asbestos Removal undertaken by Inner City Environmental, Scaffold undertaken by Inner City Scaffold, both brands being part of Downwell Group
Challenges: A constricted site bounded on its rear elevation by the A406 (North Circular Road), and on the front elevation by privately owned residential properties. In response to this, the site was securely hoarded and a plan of work designed that delivered the safe remediation and demolition of the buildings in a manner that ensured the minimum of disruption to neighbours throughout the delivery stage. Furthermore our pre-commencement engagement with the project neighbours, combined with regular in-process dialogue, ensured that there were no complaints or associated delays, allowing the project to start on time and to finish on time.
