Global:The buildings that formed Richmond Upon Thames College (prev. Twickenham Technical College) date back to 1937, however in 2020 the site was made redundant, when the college moved to a new location. A partnership between London Square and Latimer, Twickenham Square subsequently purchased the site for a development to be titled ‘Twickenham Square.
Specific: The demolition of all redundant college buildings, ahead of its redevelopment to provide residential properties. Set within an existing residential area the delivery of the demolition works requires much liaison with the local residents’ group, and the local authority to ensure that our early enabling works are delivered in a manner that ensures the maintains the highest levels of neighbour engagement and neighbour satisfaction.
Challenges: A SEND school is located immediately adjacent to the College, with one of the school’s building within 2m of a structure earmarked for demolition. As works commenced our client was informed by the school that some pupils were sensitive to excessive noise, and asked if we could plan for this in our delivery, and phase elements of the works to be completed outside of normal school hours. In response to this we worked with the client, and the local authority, and revised both the programme and the methodology to manage this requirement.
