Global: The Travelodge Building in the Dockland is a five storey, two hundred room hotel constructed in the 80’s. Purchased by Telehouse, the building was demolished with the site redeveloped to provide a state-of-the-art Data-Centre to service Canary Wharf and the City of London.
Specific: Employed by the client’s agent, Downwell undertake the demolition package inclusive of a pre-commencement Asbestos R&D survey to determine the presence of asbestos, the removal of all identified asbestos containing materials, structural demolition, and services installation.
Challenges: UXO/Location of existing Dock Wall – This part of London was extensively bombed during World War 2, and as part of our contract required us to excavate areas of the site it was of paramount importance that we planned and carried our works in a safe, diligent and methodical manner. This being the case our pre-construction team studied the local archives, and our site team undertook ground probing activities as well as having additional banksman in place as the works were taking place.
