The Tournament
The Surveyors Cup now in its fourth year is growing. The first ‘Surveyors Cup’ had twelve teams competing but this year saw 31 teams taking part on the day. At one point 35 teams had signed but as with all events there always a number that drop out. Next year we plan to have 36.
The Free Kicks Foundation
This year our chosen charity was the Free Kicks Foundation. This Peterborough based Charity raise money to give terminally ill, bereaved and disadvantaged children football experience they will remember for a lifetime. Participating teams were asked if they would consider donating and we had an overwhelming response.

The weather was very hot on the day so plenty of water and suncream was required. A big thank you to Jamie and her team at Mckagans who provided sports massage on the day. It was certainly needed early on with a few players pulling muscles and other minor injuries.
The catering was superb and supplied by Conti Catering of Romford.
The team at Play Football Romford were very organised and had plenty of staff on hand to make sure the tournament ran smoothly.
As with previous years the tournament started with group stages with the teams finishing in the top spots going into the World Cup knock out stages. The bottom teams went into a plate competition.
The football was very competitive and of a very high standard. Stace LLP playing as Croatia who have yet to win the tournament despite reaching the semi and finals in previous years were once again unlucky. They came up against in form Paragon BC (Saudi Arabia). Martin Arnold (Sweden) defeated Galliard Homes (Korea) in the other semi final. With Alvin Martin commentating the final was a thrilling match which ended 3-1 to Paragon BC to crowning themselves as World Champions.
In the plate competition Ridge and Partners (Costa Rica) defeated Wilmott Dixon (Republic of Ireland) in the semi final to face Edward Cooper Young who defeated Gillespies (Iceland) in the final. What a match it was with sudden death penalties deciding it after 5-5.
Downwell would like to thank all the teams that took part, despite being competitive The Surveyors World Cup played in good spirits and we hope everyone who took part had a great time.
