The Surveyors Cup just gets bigger and better
This year the tournament was the biggest yet with 40 teams taking part. It has come along way since 2015 when 12 teams took part. Calfordseaden were the winners on that occasion.
The tournament was once held at Play Football Romford for the second year running. Ex West Ham captain and Talksport presenter Alvin Martin was the MC for the day.
The Jermain Defoe Foundation
Every year we pick a football connected charity to use the event to raise money for. This year it was the Jermain Defoe Foundation who are based in Romford. We managed to raise nearly £4,000 kindly donated by the participating teams.
Teams taking part
We had some leading companies within the Construction Industry taking part including Calfordseaden, Gardinder Theobald, Kier London, Paragon BC, Henry Riley, Be First, Potter Raper, Inland Homes, RPS, CS2, Stace LLP, Malcolm Hollis, Martin Arnold, Avison Young, Arcadis, Artelia, Ashe Construction, Ridge and Co, ITC, 3BM, WT Partnership, Croudace and Phillip Pank.
The Surveyors Cup tournament format
The tournament format consisted for 8 groups of 5 teams. The top two teams from each group would go into the knockout stages of the tournament and the teams finishing in 3rd and 4th place into the plate competition.
This year a penalty shoot out tournament was introduced to run alongside the main tournament. Grays Athletic who are sponsored by Downwell kindly provide their under 18’s reserve goalkeeper Liam Tuitt to go between the sticks.

Penalty Shoot Out
The two teams that qualified for the peanalty shoot out were Fairhurst and Gillespies.
The tournament
The standard of football as usual was very high but played in a good spirit. As with the tournament every year the weather turned out to be very good. It was not as hot as last year which was a godsend. However plenty of oranges, mini mars bars and water was distributed to the teams.
McKagans Sports Physio were on hand to keep some of the teams playing and Conti Catering provided a fantastic BBQ again.
Alvin Martin provide some excellent sports commentary in Talksport style.
Rhianna Chadwick took some excellent photos which really captured the atmosphere of the day and can be downloaded here
